What is GST?
GST is a product of the biggest tax reform in India that has tremendously improved the ease of doing business and also increased the taxpayer base in India by including millions of small businesses under one uniform tax system. The GST regime mandates that all the entities that are involved in buying or selling the goods or providing services or both are required to register and obtain the GSTIN.
What is GSTIN?
GSTIN is a unique 15 digit code that is allocated to every taxpayer that has valid GST registration in India. It is a unique code that is allocated to every taxpayer which is given based on the state and the PAN. GSTIN is mandatory for businesses when the annual turnover is exceeding Rs.20 lakh. If the business is carrying out a business e-commerce platform it is necessary to obtain the GSTIN.
GST registration is mandatory once the entity is crossing a minimum threshold turnover or when the individual starts a new business that is expecting to cross the prescribed turnover.
What are the documents required to obtain GST registration?
The following documents must be submitted by regular taxpayers applying for GST registration.
1. PAN Card of the business
2. PAN of the applicant
3. Identity proof of the applicant along with the photographs
4. Address proof of the applicant.
5. Business registration document or the Certificate of Incorporation.
6. Business location proof
7. Bank Account statement or canceled cheque
8. Digital Signature Certificate
9. Letter of authorization or Board Resolution for the authorized signatory.

What is GST return filing?
Businesses that are registered under GST have to file the GST returns monthly, quarterly, and annually based on the business. Here it is necessary to provide the details of the sales or purchases of the goods and services along with the tax that is collected and paid. An individual taxpayer filing the GST returns has to file 4 forms for filing the GST returns such as the returns for the supplies, returns for the purchases made, monthly returns, and the annual returns.
GST return filing in India is mandatory for all the entities that have a valid GST registration irrespective of the business activity or the sales or the profitability during the period of filing the returns. Hence, even a dormant business that has a valid GST registration must file the GST returns.
GST return is a document that contains the details of all the income or the expenses that a taxpayer is required to file with the tax administrative authorities.
